Freelance tips, how to get paid from your clients? After closing a client, I always ask for a deposit and get paid upfront at least 40% of the total cost of the project.
Why is that?
1. If the client does the deposit upfront, the project is real and not bullshit. The client is committed to starting and see the progress of the project.
2. This will set the expectation and what output to be delivered at a certain time. Client expecting me to be responsive because they already have an amount invested.
3. The deposit upfront is a reminder to me that I should do the job smoothly and deliver outstanding work.
After delivering the expected output, I ask for another 35% for the revision and new set of task. Then 25% again for the final payment by getting the project done on time.
This method is applicable for fixed-rate projects. Same principle if you are working by the hour.
The total hours for the project to be done is 40 hours, demand the payment upfront for the first 20 hours of work then start the project.
This method works for me very well and I’m always get paid.
Don’t work for free. Always make sure you get paid by the work you did.
